Why I'm running
“Guam is at a crossroads. The decisions we make today will shape the island our children and elders call home. I'm Shawn Gumataotao, and I'm running to continue the fight for common-sense public policy — for every resident of Guam. My priorities are your priorities. ”
Candidate summary
My work in the 38th Guam Legislature has motivated me to continue the fight for the common-sense priorities of Guam.
Shawn Gumataotao is a Senator in the Guam Legislature serving as the Chairman of the Committee on Public Safety, Emergency Management and Guam National Guard. He has extensive experience in public policy, operational management, and strategic communications.
To the voters
My work in the 38th Guam Legislature has motivated me to continue the fight for the common-sense priorities of Guam. Rolling back increases to the Business Privilege Tax after eight years is an example. That fight was a reminder that our private sector is a key part of our economy. Residents asked for open spaces to keep families healthier and safer. I created public policy that provides unutilized land for public benefit like a police precinct in Yigo and sports fields in Agana and Barrigada. The public sector needs a healthy private sector to effectively provide critical services to everyone
The first 100 days
A measure to modernize the Office of Civil Defense and Guam Homeland Security. Numerous oversight hearings over the last two years have made it clear that policies must be changed to strengthen emergency management services now so that Guam is as prepared as possible before, during, and after a disaster, particularly with the help of critical federal resources.
Top priorities
- Cost of Living
- Economy
- Public Safety
- Small Business
- Senior Citizens
